Sentence Types Worksheets for Grade 1–2 (Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative, Exclamatory)

Helping children understand sentence structure is one of the most important early grammar skills. In Grade 1 and Grade 2, students learn that sentences are not all the same—they can tell something, ask something, give a command, or show strong emotion.

To make this learning easy and engaging, I created a Sentence Types Worksheet Pack designed for young learners with simple explanations, practice activities, and a final assessment.

What are Sentence Types?

There are four main types of sentences children learn in early grammar:

1. Declarative Sentences (Statements)

These sentences tell something.

👉 Example:

  • Emma is going to the zoo.

2. Interrogative Sentences (Questions)

These sentences ask something and end with a question mark.

👉 Example:

  • What animals will she see?

3. Imperative Sentences (Commands)

These sentences give instructions or commands.

👉 Example:

  • Pack your snacks and water bottle.

4. Exclamatory Sentences (Strong Emotion)

These sentences show excitement, surprise, or strong feelings.

👉 Example:

  • How amazing this trip will be!
